Is It Smart To "Follow Your Heart"?

As Christians who are navigating a world where many decisions need to be made, is it smart to “follow your heart”?

We believe the bible lays out three distinct parts of the human being; Spirit, Soul and Body. God created all of us as spirit beings who have the opportunity to be indwelled by His Holy spirit, we have our soul (mind, will, emotions), along with our physical body (the temple). When it comes to navigating this life our aim as children of God is to completely rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us every step of the way. As Apostle Paul said in Romans 8:12 “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, These are the sons of God.” The bible goes even further in Jeremiah 17:9 telling us “The heart is deceitful above all things.” Emotions are a gift from God, but like everything else - are meant to be subject to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

This topic is what inspired us to pen “Spirit Lead Me”. The goal was to encapsulate the struggle of surrendering along with the truth that obedience to Christ is the only way to real life. The song was started months before the album recording for “Touching Heaven”, but didnt have the hook line of the chorus (The literal words “Spirit Lead Me) until just a few weeks before. One of the pastors at church suggested that title and it worked perfect! Just a few days before the live album recording, this song was still not complete! In fact, nobody thought anything special about the song so the writing of it kept getting pushed off. The final portion that needed to be completed was the bridge. Our team finally brought it across the finish line at the final hour and we are so happy we did. When we saw the way God ended up breathing on it the way that He has, it was a surprise all around!
